They are discussing what and how we should adjust to changes will be caused by the virus on each 3 stages, such as, [ On-Corona ] , [ With-Corona ] , and [ Post-Corona ].
- What is happening in printing industry in Japan ? -
In Japan as well, a lot of Japanese people also stayed at home and many industries have affected because of the virus.
However, the above specialists suggested that it was a good opportunity that we were able to consider again our business models again.
Also they introduced some examples about HP customers.
- One of the customers in Japan made use of the drawing of [ medical face guard ], which HP had offered, for Japanese medical care workers and they have begun to provide it.
- One of the customers produced and offered [ floor seal ] which shows " social distancing " clearly.
- One of the customers produced and offered [ poster ] (with HP equipment), which is about " take away service " to small local restaurants.
Like these cases, lots of HP customers took various actions to compensate the society with their technology.
In order to survive the current harsh situations, the above experts indicated that it would be important to think about our actions on 3 stages as follows.
#1 : ON-Corona ;
We should focus on keeping cash and on predicting some changes of future at first.
#2 : WITH-Corona ;
On this stage, some restrictions are lifted ( there are still some ), we should focus on realizing what kind of new services with printing machine will create our new profit.
#3 : POST-Corona ;
It is the most important how we can create and build new business models as a new normal.
*In my opinion, in order to come up with attractive new business models, we need to monitor the changes and to try new challenges on WITH-Corona era.
Also, in order to predict the the future changes and to try the new challenges, we need to make sure what kind of conventional operations and services are useless during ON-Corona era.
As a good example, the above specialists introduced us one beautiful case of UK.
Those who were forced to be in lockdown in UK asked for " connection between people " and they sent each other more customized (personal) greeting cards more than before.
It is said that it was more popular than in Christmas season.
They ordered the personal greeting cards online without going outside, and actual greeting cards ( printings ) were delivered to people via digital printing.
As this example, if we could cope with some needs of consumers online, we will be able to adapt to the changes of needs or of markets quickly.
" Even though people don't move, if item or information can be moved, we can keep creating business. "
This is exactly a new global business concept.
The point is that how we can deliver " more personal actual item ( like post card, pamphlet etc ) " online, it's NOT to focus on online only.
In Japan, online shops usually pack each more personal advertisement set with the ordered item one by one.
For example, if I'm interested in wine and I order some wines online, I will receive the package including some advertisements related to wine, like wine opener, wine glass etc, so that they can cultivate my motivations (cross selling).
Many delivery companies and printing companies already knows it's much better to make a customized personal advertisement for each each customer from a marketing view points, but if they would like to start the service, they would need to install an expensive big line(machine) before.
Therefore most of them have still handle collating one customized set by manually.
( Or some of them gave up and they just make " same " advertisement sets to each customer.... )
