WIPO(World Intellectual Property Organization) announced " World Intellectual Property Indicators 2019 " on 16th October.
According to the report,
the total number of patent, trademark, design applications all over the world 2018 has been reached a record high.
It says, basically the number of the applications have been increasing since 2004 ( except for 2009 ), and the number of 2018 has finally been reached over 3.3 millions applications.
( It's increased 5.2 % compared previous year. )
Particularly, the number from China is the largest (over 1.5 millions ), and it accounts for roughly 45% of the whole world.
Actually the number from China has been the largest scale about applying patent since 2011, it's pretty outstanding.
The second largest country is the U.S.(0.6 millions), and the third largest country is Japan(0.3 millions only).
The number is related to " Patent ", thus it means that China is the largest country which make the best efforts on developing new technologies currently.
Even though some business persons still misunderstand that Chinese brands are not either good quality or not advanced, the situation will change gradually.
Regarding the number of trademark applications,
The number from China is again the largest, and it's been reached over 7.3 millions applications ( it accounts for roughly 50% of the whole world. )
Except for China,
- Indonesia : 29.1 % increased vs. previous year
- India : 20.9 % increased
- South Korea : 14.5 % increased
- UK : 12.4 % increased
The report indicates that currently Asia is the hottest new business generating area in the world.
