How we should evaluate the manufacturer if it's okay or not, in the case of purchasing the product?

If you have an terrible experience that you purchased low quality products previously,

If you would like to check beforehand whether or not, the manufacturer is good on the quality,

If would like to avoid getting awful products for your important clients,

this tips could be helpful to you probably.

I sometimes heard that some overseas companies previously purchased awful products from Asian manufacturer and heard they won't buy any products from Asia anymore.

If you would like to obtain a higher reliable product for your important clients such as government related or main national brands, you must absolutely choose a manufacturer properly.

However, it is often difficult to manage that, because the evaluating methods are not well known enough unfortunately.

Currently I'm involved in sales marketing and business development field, but I was an engineer around 10 years ago, thus I would like to share with you how we can evaluate manufacturer with one indicator from my experience.

The indicator is [ Initial production (quality) control ].

The more complex the product is, the more important this indicator is.

We high quality Japanese manufacturers usually follows this concept, especially when we develop and launch a new product.

The indicator [ Initial production (quality ) control ] focus on the quality from when the product was planned until when the quality of the production becomes stable, because we already realize most of the errors are caused in that periods.

If we follow the concept, we can easily find and recognize lot of potential risks and issues by ourselves as well, thus many global scale Japanese manufacturers have also adopted this way for many years.

That's why, the quality of many Japanese manufacturers is higher basically.

The sales department, the planning devision, the R&D team, and production devision held " design review meeting " many times, and all teams consider the product concept, and check if it's able to meet potential needs, and check if there is no quality issue, or not as well.

The design review meeting is held as follows basically.

- DR-0 ;

Idea brainstorming, and all team members discuss the design goal and the risks too.

- DR-1 ;

Management decides whether the development is begun.

- DR-2 ;

All team members ( including the management ) check the progress and the issues with some prototype machines or some experiments.

After solving the all issues, the meeting will decide to proceed in the next step.

- DR-3 ;

All team members ( including the management ) check the mass production trial result and the quality.

If there is no big issue, some field testing will be conducted.

- Final judgement :

Management decides whether the product is begun to produce and launch through checking the result of the field testings.

- After launching :

All team members keep monitoring if issues happen in the market, or not for several months.

If we find issues, even it's a slight issue, we will immediately correspond to solve the issues.

If there seems be no issue already, we will finish the initial production (quality) control.

As for our company, we usually keep the control one year after the new product is launched.

The features of this concept are ......

#1 : We make the best efforts in considering as many potential risks as possible before beginning the design.

#2 : We keep monitoring the market situation after the product is launched.

If your business partner adopted to this concept, there would be no need to worry about the quality, you could keep proceeding together without any worries.

If you were concerned about your business partner ( the manufacturer ), it might be better to ask the company show you some documents related to " Initial production (quality) control ".

In my opinions, if your business partner is proud of the quality, the company will show you them very soon.

Or, if the M.I.F. ( number of the machine in the field ) were so big, you would no need to worry about the quality, because the big number is an strong evidence about the higher quality.

Regarding your business partner,

if the product were launched recent years, besides, or if the M.I.F. were not enough yet, it might be better to check the quality control system.

I would be happy if this tips could be helpful to your business too.

Hope that your business projects are also keeping well.
